The Rotary Express Train is a g-24 scale replica model of an authentic CP Huntington. The original CP Huntington was the first locomotive purchased by the Southern Pacific Railroad, carrying that railroad's number 1 engine. Huntington used the locomotive beginning on April 15, 1864, during construction of the western portion of the First Transcontinental Railroad in North America.
Our CP Huntington is number 262 of the 320 that have been hand crafted. This train has a history of serving families in the New Orleans, Louisiana area and was moved here just two weeks before Hurricane Katrina.
The Kannapolis Rotary Club donated funds for Rotary Station. Mr. J. Carlyle Rutledge, a longtime member of the Kannapolis Rotary Club, also generously supported the project and requested that the train go by the name Rotary Express. A coach is named in honor of Martin Marietta for their generous donation of stone that was used in the installation of the track.
Rides on the Rotary Express cost $1.00.
