Kannapolis is strategically located along I-85 just north of Charlotte minutes from Concord Regional Airport, Lowe's Motorspeedway and Concord Mills mall. The city is also less than a half-an-hour from I-77, uptown Charlotte and Charlotte-Douglas International Airport.

Highways

  • Located off five I-85 exits. I-85 corridor is the most rapidly growing corridor on the East Coast and is noted as a "premier development area in the United States."
  • Fifteen miles south of Cabarrus County, I-85 connects with I-77.
  • Just south of Cabarrus County, I-485 (Charlotte's outerbelt), Hwy. 49 and US 29 connectors are complete. The entire I-485 beltway is scheduled for completion in 2008 further improving access to and development opportunities in Kannapolis and Cabarrus County.
  • Additional highways link Kannapolis to the region, US 29, US 601, NC 49, NC 73, NC 24/27 and NC 136.


Air
Air travelers can take advantage of Concord Regional Airport, which is located within a few short miles of Kannapolis and its business parks. North Carolina's fourth-busiest airport, Concord Regional Airport recently began $13.5 million construction project to extend a runway allowing for international and west coast flights.

Charlotte-Douglas International Airport is just 30 miles from Kannapolis near I-77 and I-85. This international airport averages 500 daily departures and 23 million passengers annually. The airport is ranked among the nation's top airports and serves commercial, cargo, corporate, private, military and trucking operations.

Statesville Municipal Airport is located 37 miles from Kannapolis along I-85.

Rail
Norfolk-Southern Railway, a national freight rail carrier, operates a north-south rail line through Kannapolis. This corridor is the rail carriers main line between Atlanta, GA and Washington, DC and operates an average in excess of 30 trains per day. Through a combination of services from AMTRAK and the State of North Carolina, six rail passenger trains serve Kannapolis. A new 7,120 square foot train station is under construction in downtown Kannapolis. Kannapolis is also included as a stop on the planned

Ports
Charleston, SC, Wilmington, NC and Morehead City, NC are available ports. Norfolk Southern and CSX Intermodal provide rail service.

Cannon Blvd. is a north-south commercial road paralleling I-85 connecting to Salisbury-Spencer and Concord-Charlotte.

Main St. is a north-south route connecting to Landis-China Grove and Concord parallels the west side of the Norfolk Southern Railroad main line, Cannon Blvd. (US 29-601)

The Loop Road System
The Loop Rd. system circles the central business district and includes Lane St., Jackson
Park Rd., Loop Rd. and Dale Earnhardt Blvd.; connects with I-85 at two interchanges, Lane St. and Dale Earnhardt Blvd.
