Last night, City Council authorized staff to proceed with issuing requests for proposals (RFPs) for curbside recycling services and bins.
Curbside recycling will help Kannapolis comply with the state law that bans aluminum cans, and as of October 2009, plastic bottles from landfills. City staff is proposing a $5 per month solid waste fee to pay for the program. For more information, check out the blog post.
This year the Cities of Concord and Kannapolis – along with Cabarrus County – will be holding a joint Earth Day Festival. Scheduled for Saturday, April 24, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., the festival will be held at North Cabarrus Park in Kannapolis.
Plans include information booths, classes at the Dogwood Shelter, nature walks, geocaching, art contests and other activities.

Work is continuing on the downtown water project. Visitor's to downtown may have noticed work on Vance Street. A tentative schedule of the streets impacted can be found on the project blog, which is updated once a week.
