Council Votes to Delay Recycling Bids

At its meeting Monday evening, City Council voted to delay bids for recycling until the City's solid waste service contract is up in July 2011. According to Kannapolis Public Works Director Wilmer Melton, the city's current contractor and its competitors weren't comfortable bidding on a recycling program to start in December 2010 and then put in a separate bid for solid waste for July 2011.

The delay should allow the City to obtain the best possible price for both services, and preliminary discussions are underway with Concord to explore combining the services to gain benefits from economies of scale.
