November 2009
In August of 2007, Kannapolis partnered with the city of Mooresville as well as Iredell and Cabarrus counties to create a joint land use and transportation plan for the emerging Hwy 3 Corridor.
At its meeting last night, Council heard the results of the plan, which was developed by the Centralina Council of Governments and has been approved by all the jurisdictions with the exception of Cabarrus County.
A core component of the study is maintaining the rural character of the area through design guidelines. The plan does call for widening of Hwy 3 to accommodate a significant increase in traffic over the next 20 years as the NC Research Campus and Lowe's Corporate Headquarters build out. Loose leaf collection will begin October 19. This year, the City will continue to use the system where loose leaf and bagged yard waste collection pick-ups occur every other week. The collection system breaks the City up into 10 zones. Please click here for more information.
Entry forms are now being accepted for the Kannapolis Christmas Parade which will be held on Saturday, December 5. For more information, please click here.
The City of Kannapolis has won the Willie Parker Peace History Book Award for "Kannapolis: A Pictorial History." Presented by the North Carolina Society of Historians, the award recognizes the work for its excellence in the publication of a history of a North Carolina county, institution or individual.
