Water Treatment Plant Water Treatment Plant Operator I $14.95 - $17.30
Description

Summary of Duties: Performs intermediate skilled work in the operation of water pumping and purification equipment; does related work as required. Work is performed under the regular supervision of the Water Plant Manager. At the direction of management, performs operational duties to maintain public water supply quality and quantity according to Federal, State and Local regulations and directives. This includes matching production supply with community demand and keeping all water quality standards within governmental parameters. Operator will monitor all aspects of water production through SCADA. Specific examples of work performed includes, but is not limited to: troubleshooting, maintaining, and adjusting plant equipment to ensure proper functioning of water pumps, motors, chlorinator, filters and chemical feeder; collecting water samples from designed points; performing basic chemical tests; performing basic building and grounds maintenance functions; and performing related tasks as required. Operator must be familiar with in house safety procedures and equipment and be versed in pertinent OSHA regulations.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
General knowledge of the principles, practices, equipment and methods used in water treatment and pumping operations; general knowledge of the occupational hazards connected with water plant and related activities and of necessary safety precautions; knowledge of chemistry as applied to water treatment; ability to adjust water pumps, chemical feed machines and other water plant equipment; ability to check the operation of equipment and to detect defects in operation; ability to take accurate readings, to keep routine records and to make arithmetical computations; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates.

Minimum Education and Qualifications: High school graduate or GED required and some experience in the operation of a water treatment plant preferred.

Special Requirements: Water Treatment Plant Operator (Class “C” Surface Water Operator Level) Certification required. Requires good math skills and coursework in algebra. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. and use a ladder when necessary.

Hours of Work: 7pm - 7am (12 hr. shift) Some overtime required

Public Works - Street Construction Maintenance Worker I - Street $24,361 - $28,015
Description

Summary of Duties: Performs routine, semi-skilled work in construction and maintenance of City’s street system. Work may involve street construction, sign construction, or refuse collection and the use of a variety of machinery and vehicles. An employee in this position may be exposed to indoor and outdoor environmental conditions, extreme cold or heat.
Also may be required to be on-call and report to work in cases of emergencies.

Minimum Education and Qualifications: High school graduate or GED required. Street maintenance or repair experience preferred. Valid NC Driver’s License and safe driving history.

Additional Requirements: Class A CDL driver’s license required (or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire). Prefer experience operating heavy equipment.

Hours of Work: 40 Hrs. per week = overtime

Parks and Recreation Grounds & Facilities Manager $35,988 - $41,386(DOQ)
Description

Summary of Duties: Oversees operation of all grounds maintenance contracts, maintenance of all gateways, Veterans Park, Dale Earnhardt Tribute Park, Village Park, the Kannapolis Cemetery, Kannapolis Train Station, Kannapolis Business Park, and all current parks and recreation maintained medians and right-of-ways, as well as all other city property mowing. Oversees all grounds maintenance contracts; Oversees facility maintenance at Village Park and other park facilities as assigned. Responsible for the maintenance and care of over 500 trees. Responsible for all city flower and pine needle installations. Responsible for fertilization and weed control of all turf and ornamental areas. Submits weekly written progress reports and operational data information. Seeks cost effective operating measures as well as pricing information on job related needs. Opens and closes parks when necessary. Oversees and when necessary performs grounds maintenance, and beautification work, including mowing, trimming, trash collection and custodial duties. Hires and supervises assigned full-time and part-time maintenance staff and community service workers. Supervises and participates in the maintenance of athletic fields, parks, greenways and public open space. Maintains grounds, prunes, trims and fertilizes hedges, trees and bushes; mows grass; applies herbicides and pesticides as necessary. Interacts directly with Special Events Coordinator in production of Summer Concert Series and Movies in the Park. Performs and documents playground inspections on a regular basis. Must have the ability to understand and follow oral and written directions; ability to operate maintenance equipment; ability to get along well with others; ability to work unusual hours, including nights and weekends.

Minimum Education and Qualifications: Bachelors Degree in parks and recreation or related field is preferred or an equivalent combination of education and training; must be at least 21 years of age. At least two to four years in a supervisory parks and recreation position preferred. Valid NC driver’s license with CDL endorsement or ability to obtain is required. A safe driving history is also required. A pesticides applicator license with public operator, category L is also preferred or applicant must be willing to obtain within 6 months of hire. Good knowledge of all types of park maintenance is required. Must have or be eligible to receive CPRP Certification. Also required is playground safety inspector certification (CPSI), or the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.

Hours of Work: 40 hrs. per week; could include nights & weekends

Description

Summary of Duties: Performs responsible police work in the protection of life and property through the enforcement of laws and ordinances. Work involves patrolling assigned areas, accident and crime scene investigations and special assignments for the purpose of prevention of crime.

Minimum Education and Qualifications: High School graduation or GED required; college level work in criminal justice field preferred; law enforcement experience preferred. Applicants must be age 21 before May 30, 2009.

Additional Requirements: Valid NC driver’s license with safe driving record or ability to obtain prior to hire. Must be able to pass a physical abilities test and written test.

Hours of Work: 12-Hr. rotating shift
