Walter M Safrit Park on Bethpage Road adjacent to
the Public Works Operations Center is the first park built by the
City of Kannapolis. A $250,000 Parks and Recreation Trust Fund Grant
from the State offset the $900,000 construction costs of the 17-acre
park. The park includes two lighted 300 ft. softball fields, a full-size,
lighted soccer field, a playground, walking trails and a picnic
shelter/restroom facility. The park will also serve as a key component
of a future greenway system. The Kannapolis Rotary contributed $26,000
to provide benches and other amenities for the park. Cabarrus County
provided $10,000 of the funds as a matching grant.

The Park officically opened in March, 2004. The playground, greenway and athletic fields are heavily used and for youth and adult practices and league games. The park boasts one of the only lighted soccer fields in Cabarrus County. The softball fields have 300 ft fences and four different bases distance options, 60', 65', 80' or 90'. Fields can be rented for practice, leagues or tournaments. Please call the department at 704-920-4343 for more information.
