Wilmer
Melton
Director of Public Works
Wilmer Melton, III became Kannapolis Director
of Public Works in January 2003. Prior to that position, he had
served as the Citys Director of Water Resources since 2001.
A native of Kannapolis, Melton graduated summa cum laude from North
Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University in 1993 receiving
his Bachelor of Science Degree in Construction Management. Wilmer
has a history of dedicated service to the citizens of Kannapolis
serving as an engineer early in his professional career. His professional
experience includes a mixture of public and private employment.
Melton is the president-elect of the Kannapolis
Rotary Club, vice president of his homeowners association
and is on the board of directors of Cabarrus County Meals on Wheels.
Melton is a member of the American Water Works Association (AWWA)
and serves as an instructor to other professionals in the collections
and distribution industry. He also maintains state certifications
as a Grade A Water Distribution System Operator and
as a Grade 4 Water Pollution Control System Operator.
Wilmer is married to Angela Deas Melton, an instructor
with the Kannapolis City School System, and has four children.
